Epsom & Ewell Refugee Network

Support for Ukrainians

EERN's Help Desk and includes Ukrainian speaking staff and volunteers, who are available to offer information, advice and guidance. Many of our English language teachers also speak Ukrainian.

Our Hub in Epsom welcomes refugees of all backgrounds, and has particularly become a social and community centre for Ukrainians in the area. EERN regularly facilitates local events, including Ukrainian music concerts and food festivals, to celebrate and showcase Ukrainian culture.

Homes for Ukraine

We have supported over 50 Epsom & Ewell families in partnership with the Epsom & Ewell Borough Council. This support includes:

  • Providing support to guests through regular home visits, referrals, and advice from our support workers.
  • Supervising and supporting those hosting guests from Ukraine.
  • Raising awareness about the need for new hosts and sponsors.
  • Making guidance and resources available for guests and hosts, such as this guide for new hosts

Please see below some resources for hosts and guests. We are always open to speaking with current or prospective hosts and guests. To find out how we can support so please contact us if you'd like to speak with one of our team.

STEP Ukraine - English Language and Employment Programme

STEP Ukraine is an intensive virtual, 12-week English language and employment programme for Ukrainians in the UK, delivered by World Jewish Relief and the British Council.

STEP Ukraine is designed to help you find meaningful employment in the UK and improve your English. STEP Ukraine is funded by the UK Government and is completely free for all participants. It is open to anyone from Ukraine who is over 18 and arrived in the UK on either the Homes for Ukraine Scheme, the Ukraine Family Scheme, or is on the Ukraine Extension Scheme. You can join if you are unemployed or if you have a job but are hoping to move into more relevant employment. We can also support people interested in self-employment.

The programme includes:

  • An intensive 10 weeks of 2.5 hour daily English classes by the British Council, with options to take the lessons morning, afternoon or evening
  • 12 weeks of weekly employment support with a dedicated employment advisor, to support with: CV writing, job applications, interview prep, support with job search, and specialist workshops
  • All classes are remote, and teacher led. They are streamed so you will be with classmates at a similar level.
